Indicative of the progress of ITI to date is its participation in more than 20 competitive R&D projects in the period 1998–2001. In the same period, the funding received from the AP Government and the private sector exceeded expectations. The aforementioned research programmes are being carried out in cooperation with academic, research and industrial partners.

Regarding the future plans of ITI, there will be an emphasis on the further strengthening of the existing laboratories, aiming to establish them as Centres of Excellence, as well as on the adoption of flexible methods for the expansion of its R&D activities. ITI will concentrate on basic, applied and technological research in thematic areas considered of strategic importance for the national economy, in conjunction with the priorities of corresponding operational programmes and the activities of business groups and SMEs active in the Information Technology (IT) sector.
